Get productive in your first session

Install, take the tour, and run your first test. This page is the same guidance you get under Help inside the app.

Install

  • Download the macOS .dmg or Windows .exe from the Download page.
  • macOS (unsigned builds): right-click the app and choose Open the first time, or run xattr -cr /Applications/Reconn.app after installing.
  • Windows (unsigned builds): SmartScreen may warn. Choose More info, then Run anyway.

First-time tour

  • On first launch Reconn opens a guided tour: Collection, Import, Capture, Explain, Report.
  • Skip it any time, or replay it from the toolbar Tour button or Help → Replay product tour.
  • The in-app user manual mirrors this page. Open it from Help.

Your first five minutes

  1. Import a Postman Collection v2.1, or create a New request.
  2. On the collection root, link your local repository so Explain and Report can see your code.
  3. Pick an environment, then send the request.
  4. Open Tests under the editor to generate deterministic cases.
  5. Optional: use Capture on a website to discover its APIs and SEO / AEO / GEO scores.

Core API work

  • The request builder covers method, params, headers, auth, body, TLS, and timeouts.
  • Environments power {{variable}} substitution across the collection.
  • Copy a request as cURL, or import cURL pasted from a terminal.
  • The response viewer and history keep recent sends ready to replay.
  • Collections import and export as Postman Collection v2.1, with a compatibility report for anything unsupported.

Testing

  • Generate positive, negative, boundary, contract, and security cases without an LLM.
  • The runner supports concurrency limits, cancel, and safety warnings.
  • Load-style runs live in the lower pane next to Response and Tests.
  • Export JSON or HTML reports. Secrets are redacted before export.

Site Capture

  • Toolbar → Capture opens a recorder for the target site.
  • Browse normally. Reconn records fetch/XHR and assets, then builds a reviewable collection.
  • SEO / AEO / GEO scores show how the page presents to crawlers and agents.

Explain, Report, and Security

  • Project Intelligence maps endpoints to source after you link a local repository.
  • Deep Explain chats over the call tree (route → service → database).
  • Security Assessment lists static findings with evidence.
  • Approved remediation shows unified diffs for review before any write.
  • Report Center exports navigable technical reports as Markdown or HTML.

Safety defaults

  • Your workspace is local-only: collections, history, environments, and secrets stay on your machine. Reconn does not sync them to our cloud.
  • TLS verification is on by default.
  • Secrets live in an app-local AES vault, not the OS Keychain, and are never uploaded.
  • Cursor and Claude Code adapters are optional. The core product works without them.
  • Agent auto-run uses read-only ask mode with a sandbox when enabled; known secrets are redacted from prompts.
  • Imported Postman scripts are kept as metadata and never executed automatically.

Auto-update

  • Signed releases update automatically inside the desktop app when a newer build is published.
  • Stay online at launch so Reconn can check for updates.
